Free ENC Software from SevenCs

SevenCs of Hamburg has announced that its widely adopted ENC digitising software, ENC Designer, is now available as freeware.
First introduced in 1997, it is now in use by more than 40 national hydrographic offices for rapid generation of electronic nautical charts from paper versions and survey sheets.
Gert Buttgenbach, director of SevenCs, says the company's intention is to make available tools for professional cartographers so that ECDIS users can enjoy a choice of standard S-57 charts. He also confirms that all existing support agreements with hydrographic offices will continue.
Users of the new freeware licence will be offered professional assistance under a support agreement that can be renewed annually. ENC Designer can be downloaded via www.enctools.org.
