However, the yard is also adept at newbuilds and set to work on a vivier crabber last year after receiving an order from Skipper Iain Gray of Bridlington. The 'Galway-y-Mor' was launched late last year, built to a design by Macduff Ship Design, with input from Skipper Gray and MMS.
The 14.95m LOA vessel has been built to a very high standard and fitted with Cummins engines for both main propulsion and auxiliary power. The keel cooled Cummins N14 main engine is rated 360 hp continuous at 1,800 rpm and drives a Woodwards four bladed 1,500mm diameter bronze propeller through a laser aligned Twin Disc gearbox.
To enable shellfish to be kept alive, Galway-y-Mor has been equipped with a vivier holding tank which replenishes its 30 tons of salt water capacity every ten minutes. When berthed alongside, a built-in venture system aerates the water to keep the catch in perfect condition for market.
Deck equipment includes a North Sea Winches pot hauler and fully marinised Guerra 40.90A1 rated at 4.5 t/m and fitted with a one ton winch.
Accommodation includes a Skipper's cabin and a crew cabin with berths for six. A combined galley and mess room includes ridge/freezer, washer/dryer, and a full entertainment system featuring a DVD player and satellite television.
A comprehensive navigation and communication package in the wheelhouse includes twin radars, GPS, transducers, navtex, Iridium satellite phone, autopilot, two VHF radios and twin remote control halogen searchlights.
