007 Supports Seafarers in 008
01 Apr 2008
The event, which coincides with Ian Fleming Centenary Year (2008) and The Imperial War Museum’s special exhibition, 'For your eyes only – Ian Fleming and James Bond', is supported by the Ian Fleming family.
The evening Gala will be hosted by the First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Sir Jonathon Band KCB ADC. Guests, who will include key figures from the shipping and maritime industries, will be treated to a private viewing of the James Bond exhibition followed by live music, drinks and canapés and a three course dinner held in the museum’s impressive main exhibition space.
Ian Fleming’s nieces, Kate Grimond (nee Fleming) and Lucy Fleming, said 'Ian Fleming’s family are delighted to support the Seafarers’ Midsummer Night Gala. The evening promises to be a splendid affair, and we wish Seafarers UK every success in raising funds to continue its vital role of supporting those in need within the maritime community. Ian Fleming’s own career in Naval Intelligence played a very important role in his life, without it James Bond may never have been created.'
An auction will also be held during dinner, with prizes including a private tour of the Vatican, a trip to Venice during Carnival week, a corporate team building day at HMS Raleigh’s Damage Control Unit , a helicopter activity day and a day of golf at St Andrews Ancient and Royal.
