MTU Motors Ahead

For the eighth year in a row, marine engine manufacturer MTU Friedrichshafen has seen an increase in turnover led by advances in its most important individual market, the maritime sector.

The Daimler Chrysler Group member reported turnover up by ?94m to ?1,034m with some ?500m of that coming from marine sector sales. The 9% growth rate came against the backdrop of a difficult general economic situation which saw a shrinking market volume worldwide.

MTU reached a new high for engine sales in 2001, shifting more than 5,000 units. MTU marine engines are especially popular in the patrol boats and large yachts markets.
