Marine Civils by David Foxwell

Dredging Project is Precursor to New Facilities in Galway

The Department of the Marine and Natural Resources in Dublin, Ireland, has issued a tender for a major capital dredging project that will be carried out in, and adjacent to, the existing port at IRL-Rossaveel, Cashla Bay, on the north shore of Galway Bay.

The work is a precursor to the construction of a deepwater quay and a new ferry berth, and will include placement of material in reclamation and also disposal of material at a designated site off shore.

The Department has confirmed that approximately 115,000m 3of material will be excavated during the project, primarily to produce manoeuvring basin and new berthing area. This area will have a minimum depth of 8m.

The Department says that the work will consist primarily of rock dredging (approximately 85,000m 3of rock), plus other marine deposits. The majority of the dredged material will be used for reclamation in order to create a back up area adjacent to the new quay.
