Gwadar Port Work gets Underway

The first consignment of equipment for the construction of the new deep water port at Gwadar arrived in Pakistan in early March.
The equipment belongs to China Harbour Engineering Company, the firm responsible for carrying out the work, and included one of the cutter suction dredgers that will carry out part of the work. The formal inauguration of the first phase of the new deep sea port was due to take place by the end of March, and will take around three years.
In this phase, three berths will be built with a draft of 10m.
Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf was due to lay the foundation stone for the new port on 22 March.
