Marine Seals for Smaller Craft

The presence of an estimated 150,000 small craft operating in British waters has inspired UK seal manufacturer Economos to enter the market for marine seals for such smaller vessels.

Already supplying seals and ancillary products to the offshore oil, gas and marine industries, Economos has developed its new seal with an eye to the many thousands of engine equipped motorboats and sailing vessels.

Smaller and non-commercial boats often do not receive the same regular servicing as larger company owned vessels. Infrequent maintenance on the propellers of small craft can bring about corrosion as a result of seal failure between, for example, the propeller and its boss. Seawater leaking along the shaft can seep up into the propeller and damage the mechanism, with variable pitch propellers in particular suffering from this problem. To overcome the problem, Economos has developed the new long-life propeller seal aimed at small craft and using their proven S-ECOPUR material. Its resistance to seawater and low friction properties, even in poorly lubricated housings, prevent or overcome potentially expensive calamities such as damaged prop bearings and pitch control rods or dried out seals.
