A&P Shipcare in Ramsgate converted the former Port of London survey vessel Chartwell into a training vessel which is to be chartered by the UK Ministry of Defence. The work involved moving the wheelhouse aft by 1.5m and an overhaul for the main and auxiliary engines.

Also included in the specification were modifications to accommodation areas and a complete facelift of the vessel appearance involving a change of colour systems. Chartwell is due to enter service this month.

The Trinity House launch Vectis has been at Ramsgate during the same period, the eighth consecutive time it has been slipped at the same facility.

The scope of work entailed the installation of a new auxiliary genset, a new sea crane on the foredeck and the inspection and overhaul of propeller shafts and rudders.

Major electrical work, various pipe work renewals and a new paint system will enable the operators to increase slipping periods from one year to two year intervals.

A&P Tyne has just completed a major repair and refurbishment programme on Haliburton Subsea's 1,530dwt diving support vessel Rockwater 1.

The contract involved Class survey work, hull and machinery repairs, hull blasting and coating, azimuth and bow thruster repairs, crane slew bearing inspection and hydraulic repairs. Work on the accommodation areas included repairs and refurbishments in the hospital, galley, crew mess rooms, and all major services including fire detection, electrics, hot and cool fresh water, plus 45 complete new wet units with new insulation installed in all areas. A&P Tyne has also announced a new ship repair agreement with offshore supply vessel specialist Stirling Management of Glasgow, part of the Seacor Group. The agreement extends existing arrangements for a further year for A&P to drydock and repair Stirling vessels operating in the UK sector.

The A&P Group has continued to forge ties with suppliers by forming a non-exclusive marketing alliance with propeller repair specialists McCall Bros Propellers Ltd.

Well established McCall Bros'services include repairs to shafting, rudders and thrusters.

They are also a main UK agent for servicing and repairs of Wartsila Propulsion (formerly John Crane Lips).
