North Sea Fleet Adds 20th Effer Crane
01 Aug 2002
Two more Effer cranes have been fitted to the Boston Putford North Sea fleet of offshore vessels. The new cranes fitted to the 69m Putford Enterprises standby and support vessel, presently on contract to Shell and operating out of Great Yarmouth UK, brings the number of Effer cranes in service with Boston Putford's fleet to 20.
The two new Effer cranes are 25,000/3S models supplied by European Cranes Services and come equipped with a powerful winch capable of lifting 2.5 tonnes even with the three section jibs extended to a reach of nearly 10m.
The Boston Putford vessels operating in the North Sea, in addition to their prime safety standby and recovery role, are also engaged in supply services.
The Effer crane on the Putford Enetrprise has been fitted to operate a Dacon Scoop or to launch a fast rescue craft in the case of emergency evacuation of a rig or man overboard. The scoop is regarded as the most efficient method of recovering personnel from North Sea waters in extreme weather conditions when large waves can make it dangerous to launch a rescue craft or use other recovery methods.
