Marina Wizards on Building Spree in Oz
01 Aug 2002
Marina development is on the up down under and one beneficiary is Bellingham Marine Australia. The company has recently completed two new projects, including the design and construction of a 70 slip facility at Coomera Waters in Queensland.
Bellingham deployed their Pacific system floats, which are fully encased in concrete to protect against sea growth, petroleum intrusion, collisions and fire damage. Slips range from 10 to 30m in length, with the marina held in position by 35 concrete piles embedded into the seafloor up to 5m.
Each arm of the dockage provides fire protection, drinking water and power.
At Port Phillip, near Melbourne, Bellingham constructed a floating dock marina which is the first "greenfield site" development at Port Phillip in over 30 years.
The harbour boasts a new 320m concrete jetty and a 216m fixed panel wave screen suspended above the seabed on driven steel piles. Marina components constructed by Bellingham include a 72m wave attenuator and a 170 berth Unifloat floating dock system which includes service pedestals and fire stations.
The new facility dramatically improves boating safety by providing a haven in extreme weather and by making the rescue craft more accessible.
An improvement in water quality and an increase in marine life has already been oberved around the harbour.
