South Boats Launch seawork Ordered 'Spartacat'

South Boats have announced the launch of Spartacat, a 36' LOA South Catamaran 36/11 Workboat which was ordered at seawork2001.

During inspection, 3 tonnes of crew and equipment were placed on one side of Spartacat and the vessel listed by only 1.8 degrees.

Spartacat was built for charter diving and angling parties and will be operated by Tim Benneto from Brighton Pier.

The vessel has an unusual layout comprising an offset wheelhouse with the wheelhouse bulkhead fitted immediately aft of the starboard helm, leaving 8' of the wheelhouse aft. This area has been built as a shelter with locker seating for 14 people and a roll-down canvas screen at the after face. Main propulsion is by twin Cummins 6BTA5.9M 260 hp diesel engines driving conventional Clements stern gear for a top speed of 25 knots.

Spartacat is fully coded to MCA Category 2 with Workboat endorsement to carry 12 passengers and 2 crew.

The seawork exhibition continues to produce good results for South Boats, who say the event "has proved itself to be the perfect marketing centre". The company has a further five craft currently in build and is constructing plug tools for a 52' catamaran for which orders have been accepted from Solent & Wightline Cruises Ltd and Blue Funnel Cruises Ltd.

South Boats have confirmed orders for a further three catamarans and say they "will certainly be exhibiting at seawork2003", with a 36' catamaran and possibly one of the 52' catamarans.
