.Turkish builder Sanmar has signed a contract with Canadian designer Robert Allan to develop a new series of twin screw tugs 22.00m in length and 8.20m beam.

The new series will be a smaller version of Dogancay series with bollard pull of over 30 tonnes intended for shiphandling.

.On 1 October this year the corporate title of Wijsmuller Marine Ltd was formally changed to Svitzer Marine Ltd. A few weeks earlier the company's headquarters in Britain was relocated in Middlesborough in the redeveloped Teeside regional office building. All contact details are as previously published.

.In the September 2002 Towlines it was reported that a number of tugs and other pieces of floating plant were being offered for sale by the US Army, from their base at Hythe on Southampton Water. The sales have now taken place, the vessels are now in the hands of commercial companies, and in most cases have been offered for resale. As previously mentioned included in the package offered were five single screw US Army Large Tugs (LTs) with an overall length of just over 100ft, built in the mid 1950s and completely refurbished and re-engined in 1995. Three tugs LT 1960 - Lundy's Lane, LT 1973 - Shiloh and LT 2081 - San Sapor have been purchased by Crane Engineering Ltd of Southampton.

LT 2092 - North Africa and LT 2090 - Larry G Dahl were sold to New Transport Lines Inc and TAE Marine Ltd respectively. All five have re-conditioned 2150bhp EMD main engines, new gearboxes and fixed nozzles. The bare hull of a sixth vessel of the same type, LT 1977 - Attleboro, was sold to Maritime Tug & Barge of the USA.

.The Port of Antwerp Authority has taken delivery of the second of three new Voith Schneider tractor tugs from the local shipbuilder SKB NV. Bearing the identifying number 21, this latest new 29.50m vessel will be joined shortly by the third and final vessel -number 22. Each tug is powered by ABC 8 cylinder MDZC diesel main engines producing a total of 5286bhp and has a bollard pull of 55 tonnes.
