Bobcat Bulks Up at Port of Hull

The UK's first Bobcat T40170 17m telehandler has been purchased for material handling applications and routine maintenance work on dockside cranes at the Port of Hull.

The Bobcats man platform attachment speeds routine crane maintenance to minimise the loss of ship unloading time.

The unit has been purchased by Hull Bulk Handling Ltd from Scunthorpe-based distributor AMS Bobcat.

Equipped with the new Bobcat man platform attachment, the T40170 is providing Hull Bulk with savings in time, money and manpower as the company no longer has to hire in expensive mobile cranes to carry out maintenance on dockside cranes.

The new Bobcat telehandler is also being used for ship trimming duties, where it is especially useful for accessing and removing product hanging in the ribs above the holds of ships. The telehandler's patented side shifting system enables it to jab at various positions along the top of the hold wall without continuous repositioning.

The Perkins powered T40170 telehandler for Hull Bulk has a maximum lift capacity of 4 tonnes, though the capacity at the 17m maximum lift height is 2.5 tonnes and at the 13m maximum reach is 0.5 tonne.
