Cargo Handling Simulator for Maine Maritime

KMSS has won a contract to supply eight workstation based Cargo Handling Simulators to the Maine Maritime Academy in the USA. The system is being delivered in the spring and will consist of both the VLCC and Product Carrier Cargo Handling Models.

The instructor station, as well as the eight student workstations, will have dual flat-screen monitors installed.

This dual monitor arrangement allows for the instructor or student to see more than one process diagram at a time. The workstation based system uses the same instructor station and processes the same model library as the fully operational system.

Each model is based on data from real ships, creating the most realistic scenarios available.

The simulator can be used for training loading, discharging, operating valves and pumps, lining up systems, inerting, stripping, tank cleaning, purging, reliquefication and ballasting, as well as calculating and monitoring stability and stresses.

The instructor station includes facilities to build scenarios, debrief, evaluate and replay exercises.

The debriefing equipment includes a colour printer, large screen projector and an online automatic evaluation system.

Both the VLCC and Product Carrier Models are designed to meet the training requirements of STCW 95. IMO codes such as Marpol, IGS, ISM, IBC and ICG relevant to each model are taken into account. They also meet classification societies' rules and environmental regulations as well as SOLAS and OPA '90.
