MET Meets Marine Crane Design Challenge

MET Marine of Chesterfield UK has supplied a purpose-built 45 tonne/metre Heila HLRM.452S crane with special computer designed features to shipwrights George Prior Engineering Limited in Great Yarmouth for installation on a cruiseship for Hebridean Island Cruises Limited.

Despite the additional time taken to design and incorporate special engineering features to meet the customer's critical performance requirements, the crane was delivered on time in less than eight weeks. It was supplied through Eastern Fluid Power of Great Yarmouth, MET Marine's local sales agent.

With its double extending jib reach of 8.33m, 450º slewing, 3 tonne lift winch on double fall and in-built moment limited safety device to prevent overload, the marine crane is tailor made for its demanding boat and other load handling duties.

A low headroom pulley system was specially designed to give maximum under-hook height for handling the cruiseship's two 5 tonne tenders. All valves are fail-safe and the crane is controlled by means of manual direct valve operation.

A remote control radio option is available.
