The Mauy is 14.9m long with a 5.5m beam and is built and fitted to comply with the latest provision of the Workboat Code.

The vessel is powered by two 175hp marine diesel engines driving through large reduction gearboxes, making Mauy very powerful for its size. The twin screw format has proved to be invaluable for this class of vessel, providing excellent manoeuvrability as well as a safety magin should one engine fail.

Mauy is designed as a deck loading vessel and can carry 20 tonnes on deck. A special feature is the large size of the propellers and propeller shaft lines and the 4:1 reduction on the gearboxes. Aquascot requested oversize shafts to prevent them sustaining the bend damage which is common with vessels working constantly amongst moorings. The propellers are well guarded in basket-type arrangements to prevent picking up ropes and lines.

Rope handling is via a 3,000kg capstan mounted on the starboard side with rollers to aid taking up anchors and other duties. There is also an 8 tonne/metre deck crane.

The vessel has a high degree of crew comfort, with a full size marine toilet compartment at the aft end of the fully panelled and insulated wheelhouse. This space is also centrally heated and provides comfortable crew seating, a sizeable galley, plus hot and cold running water.
