Newbuild Suction Hopper Dredger Deployed From Spain to Seine
01 Jul 2002
Dredger building in Spain received another boost recently when French operators GIE Dragages Ports took delivery of the 5,000m 3capacity trailing suction hopper dredger Daniel Laval from the IZAR Gijon shipyard. The vessel will be deployed primarily for maintenance dredging operations in the river Seine estuary and at Dunkirk.
The Daniel Laval is fitted with a suction pipe on the starboard side with its dredge pump driven by one of the two Wartsila 9L26A main propulsion engines through a reduction gear. The 104m loa vessel has a 6m draught, is capable of 13 knots and can dredge to depths of up to 26m.
A single transverse bow thruster facilitates manoeuvrability in confined port areas. A bridge forward design also provides 19 single cabins at the bow of the ship. The dredger is well equipped for dredging navigation channels and alongside quaywalls.
At 20m dredging depth the vessel will fill its hopper with fine sand to a maximum carrying capacity of 6,500 tonnes in one hour and can discharge the same load through conical bottom valves in nine minutes.
