01 Jul 2002
Independent consultancy specialists Emu Environmental of Durley, Southampton has completed a series of major survey and environmental studies in support of proposed European offshore renewable energy developments involving possible establishment of a windfarm in the Thames Estuary, off the Kentish coast.
The studies included detailed assessments of likely cable routes as well as investigation of coastal processes and their possible impact on local fishery activities.
Marine work was carried out aboard Emu's 11m-long survey vessel, Emu Surveyor, which is equipped with a dual frequency echosounder, sidescan sonar and sub-bottom profiler facilities.
Similar windfarm studies involving extensive field work and data processing have also been completed off the coast of Skegness on behalf of licence holders, Amec UK and Renewable Energy Systems Ltd.
