Bouygues Offshore Contracted to Build Container Terminal

Bouygues Offshore and Bouygues Travaux Publics (a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction) in France have signed a turnkey contract with Caucedo Investments Inc to build a container terminal in the Dominican Republic.

Located about 30km from Santo Domingo, in the southwest of the island, the facility will provide a depth of up to 15m to receive post-Panamax vessels.

The turnkey contract is valued at approximately EUR 150 million.

The project includes engineering, procurement, construction and installation of a 630m berth (250m at a depth of 13.5m and 380m at a depth of 15m) with a turning basin of 1,800,000m 3; a 700m breakwater; a container storage area; 5,000m 2of office space; a 6,500m 2warehouse; and port access roads.

The new terminal is due to open by the end of 2003.

Caucedo Investments is a joint venture company that includes container terminal operator CSX World Terminals and a group of Dominican Investors, Caucedo Development Corporation.
