At a recent reception held in London by Svitzer-Wijsmuller, Stuart McNiven managing director of Wijsmuller Marine Ltd announced the order of a new tractor tug from the Spanish shipyard Astilleros Zamacona.

The order for a 55 tonne bollard pull vessel for the Bristol Channel includes an option for a second vessel. It was also confirmed that the company's UK headquarters will move from Woking to Teeside in August/ September of this year. Mr Tom Docherty, former managing director of Wijsmuller Marine has left the company and returned to Red Funnel in Southampton.

Damen Shipyards have sold the new Shoalbuster 1907 DMS Hawk, and a completed Stan Tug 1605 from stock, to Besix SA of Belgium for work in Africa.

DMS Hawk was a 1096bhp, Caterpillar engined vessel with a bollard pull of 13.2 tonnes completed for the account of Damen Marine Services in June this year. Another Shoalbuster 1907 to change hands is the former Knight Buster. Completed in 1999 and offered for charter and/or sale by Damen Marine Services, this 20.55m vessel was purchased in June by the Holyhead Towing Company Ltd.

Powered by two Caterpillar 3408B TA main engines of 940bhp (total) the tug has a bollard pull of 12.5 tonnes and a free running speed of 10 knots .Londonderry Port Authority has sold the twin screw tug Strathfoyle, through the agency of Yarmouth Shipping, to Danish operator Svenborg Bugser AS.

Originally built in 1979 as the Clausentum for Red Funnel Tugs of Southampton, the 33.53m vessel was powered by two Ruston 6RK main engines giving a bollard pull of 36 tonnes.

The vessel was handed over at the end of May and will now operate as the Westsund.
