Vessel Repair & Maintenance

Drydocking Specification Simplified

The preparation of the specification document for a vessel drydocking or conversion can be very time consuming.

The bidding process between several repair yard, controlling costs and supervising work in progress according to the schedule must also be looked after. The process is complicated even for a single ship and becomes more difficult when several ships are involved.

UK-based Aeoliki Marine has integrated the functions required into one piece of software called DryDock Organiser, which automates the repetitive routines by integrating several common software tools into one product.

DryDock Organiser uses Object Link Embedded techniques to create quality specifications suitable for publication and manages itemised bidding between several shipyards and contractors. It also issues project schedules and allows the actual spend to be tracked throughout the project. The single Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP package uses tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel and project wherever applicable. Where work has to be repeated on sisterships, standard procedures are used, with the same wording entered into each document, saving time and increasing the project control capabilities for both large and small operators.

The package is designed to help marine superintendents handle drydocking and conversion specifications with minimal effort.

Additional features available to users include the Superintendent's Report, including cost analysis and a template for reporting to owners. The DryDock specification can be 'locked' at any time, ensuring the document cannot be further changed.

This is in addition to password protection, which can be selected at various stages of the programme.

All costings can be imported at the touch of a button to an Excel spreadsheet for further data analysis. A Ship Report module can be installed for each ship which allows engineering staff on board that ship to write defect/ repair/drydock requirements at sea and forward them to the company office via email, thus enabling automatic insertion into the specification document.
