Crane Upgrade Remedies Frequency Overlap Shut-Down

Birmingham UK-based crane and lifting tackle specialists Crane Care have installed a crane conversion system at vessel builder Vosper Thornycroft's Southampton yard. A total of eight crane structures were upgraded to a new HBC system, of which Crane Care is the sole UK and Ireland supplier.

Vospers worked with Crane Care ten years ago when the original HBC system was installed. This system was badly in need of an overhaul and would automatically shut down if another radio controlled machine operating within the same frequency was at work in the vicinity.

With haulage ranging in weight up to 40 tonnes, Crane Care's engineers were mindful of the safety consequences of this interference. The HBC 'eco' system proved a suitable alternative as it provides a choice of 16 wavebands which change automatically whenever frequencies overlap.

The system was installed with minimal difficulty and expense. A two year warranty and three years on electrical parts is expected to reduce future servicing costs.
