Fixed Satellite Phones Reach Small Boat Market

Iridium is a system of 66 satellites cross-linked in space and orbiting just 485 miles above Earth. Because the low-orbiting Iridium satellites are much closer to Earth than other systems (the geo-stationary Inmarsat systems orbits at 22,223 miles), it means the antenna for a satellite telephone is reduced dramatically in size, making it a viable communications system for all sizes of ships and boats.

First African VTS Installations for Transas

Transas completed its first VTS projects in Africa last month with the installation of navi-Harbour 3000 VTS systems in the Moroccan ports of Jorf Lasfar and Mohammedia. Transas won these orders following the success of Soremar, its local distributor in Morocco and North Africa, in the international tender.

Stabilised Antenna Systems Extend to Smaller Vessels

Aberdeen UK-based DMS, a subsidiary of Schlumberger Network Solutions, has launched the latest addition to the SpaceTrack 4000 portfolio of VSAT stabilised communication antenna, which facilitates VSAT communications for all maritime vessels regardless of their size.

Kelvin Hughes has secured contracts to supply navigational systems for a series of Chinese vessels.
