The Hudong Zhongua Shipyard is to fit Kelvin Hughes integrated navigation systems in four 4,100 teu containerships being built for China Shipping.

The vessels will feature two Kelvin Hughes Nucleus3 6000 ARPA radar and a third radar transceiver will also be installed on the foremast of the vessels to enable greater radar visibility when the ships are loaded with deck cargo.

Kelvin Hughes will also supply its new MANTA2300 flat panel ECDIS and conning displays while a gyro-pilot system, dual axis speed log, echo sounder and two DGPS navigators are being adopted as part of the package.

Having previously used Kelvin Hughes equipment in vessel retrofits, this is the first time China Shipping has used Kelvin Hughes' systems in a newbuild project.

The company has also secured its second order to supply two Nucleus3 radars to the Jiangnan Shipyard, which is building the second Yuehai train ferry. The ferry, which will operate between the Chinese mainland and Hainan Island, will also feature the Kelvin Hughes NDR-2002 Voyage Data Recorder.

Part of Smiths Aerospace Marine Systems, Kelvin Hughes is the world's largest supplier of marine charts and navigational information. Over 25% of the world's large merchant ships employ Kelvin Hughes' navigational data management services and over 50% are customers of the company.
