During the winter Capsat Fleet 77 systems were tested on board seven different types of vessels, ranging from large containerships to small fishing boats, sailing in all ocean regions. Winter testing provided the opportunity to test the equipment in extreme weather conditions.

Services tested are Mini-M Voice, Audio 3.1 kHz, Speech, ISDN and MPDS. Testing verified that all services are active in all ocean regions.

Capsat Fleet 77 offers both voice and data traffic. Data communication between vessels and ashore can be done with either 64kbps ISDN or 24/7 online access based on the Mobile Packet Data Service Protocol (MPDS). Unlike ISDN which is charged by the minute, charges for MPDS are for the quantity of data sent and received.
