It will offer a rare opportunity to hear presentations from experts in the field and see live demonstrations of the breakthrough process.

This is the first workshop to be held under the EUREKA EuroStir programme. This initiative is dedicated to the transfer and implementation of friction stir technology and is supported by the UK Department of Trade and Industry together with the governments of Denmark, France, Germany, Poland and Sweden.

Friction stir welding, since its invention in 1991, has expanded to embrace materials other than aluminium. Work on titanium, copper and steels is showing great promise. Users of friction stir welding in the marine, aerospace and rail industries have already benefited from significant improvements in productivity and cost reduction.
