    Coastal Erosion Comes Under Scrutiny

    A newly developed model for predicting coastal erosion came under the spotlight at a recent conference at the Institution of Civil Engineers in London. 

    English Nature: No Change on Marine Conservation Areas

    English Nature, the statutory body responsible for advising the UK government on the designation of marine Special Areas of Conservation (marine SACs) has confirmed that it does not intend to alter the way it designates the areas, even though a study it has recently completed indicates that other countries in Europe clearly use different, less stringent criteria to do so.

    IJmuiden's Third Harbour Gets Ready to RoRo

    The Third Harbour at the Dutch port of IJmuiden is nearing completion and is expecting to receive business by the end of this year. Despite problems such as weak surface layers that were discovered only after digging had begun and the need to relocate a protected species of sand lizard, the development is only six months behind its original schedule.
