    The steel hull of a new marine mammal research vessel for the International Fund for Animal Welfare Charitable Trust is being constructed in Falmouth UK from a self-jigging kit supplied by Corus. This sophisticated build method is befitting for Song of the Whale II, which will be one of the world's most advanced whale research vessels when it is launched in the spring of 2003. 

    Halmatic Celebrates 50th Anniversary at seawork2002

    A meeting on the Isle of Wight between Halmatic's founder Patrick de Laszlo and the famous boat designer Uffa Fox led to the manufacture in 1952 of Europe's first fibreglass boat - a Flying Twenty moulded in a combination of Crystic 189 polyester resin with matted glass fibres which de Laszlo named Deborine after his wife Deborah.

    Blondecell Delivers Sea Cadets' Training Vessel

    The Sea Cadet Corps is about to take delivery of the first power training vessel it has had since 1998 in the form of TS John Jerwood, a 23.5m long GRP hulled craft built by Blondecell Limited at Marchwood UK.

    European Ship Design for China

    Two European ship design and newbuilding supervision groups have joined forces to provide dedicated ship design for Chinese shipyards. Cardiff UK based Graig Plc and Carl Bro A/S of Copenhagen have launched Graig Carl Bro Ship Design to provide a full design service from a modern Shanghai office.

    Bearing a passing resemblance to the stern wheel paddle steamers enshrined in Mississippi River lore, the new towboat M/V Bootsie B is the latest newbuilding from Bollinger Shipyards of Lockport, Louisiana USA. 

    IACS Puts Unified Requirement Reservations Online

    The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) has published a list of 'reservations' to Unified Requirements (URs) regarding ship design, construction and survey in operation on its website (www.iacs.org.uk).
