Cheetah Brings a Big Cat to seawork
01 Jun 2002
Cheetah Marine returns to seawork from the Isle of Wight with one of the three Big Cats which the yard has recently built or has under construction.
On show in seawork's floating exhibition will be Lady Primrose, a 9.95m long Powercat ordered by a commercial fisherman in Cumbria.
Lady Primrose is powered by twin Honda 75hp outboards which carry a two year commercial warranty. The catamaran is fitted with a Spencer Carter hauler, Hydrive hydraulic steering and a Jabsco deckwash pump. All stainless steel work was fabricated in-house at Cheetah Marine.
The wheelhouse is fitted with two KAB suspension seats mounted on storage boxes.
The vessel pictured, another recent Powercat delivery, is the Leeson Lady. This boat is a purpose-built potter/netter, with an Icelander ML 18B net hauler and a custom built fibreglass net shoot over the stern which keeps the nets clear of the twin Honda 75hp engines when shooting and also covers the fuel tanks.
Both the net hauler and net shoot have proved successful and easy to manage.
A Spencer Carter Yanmar engined, water-cooled power pack is mounted on the port side of the wheelhouse. A diverter valve is located in the wheelhouse which is accessible from the hauling position, as are the engine, throttle and steering controls. The control valve for the net hauler is mounted on the net hauler itself and the rotary valve for the sheave is mounted on the back of the wheelhouse with the power pack, throttle and stop controls.
The third Big Cat, still under construction, is a 9.95m charter vessel for the disabled for the Dolphin Trust. This vessel will be powered by twin 90hp Hondas and will be fully equipped for up to twelve disabled passengers and up to six wheelchairs. The wheelhouse has been extended to incorporate a toilet suitable for wheelchair access and two side doors allow wheelchairs easy entry.
Dolphin Three will be launched next month and will provide free trips around Poole Harbour in Dorset.
