Perkins Sabre Replace M90
01 Mar 2002
One of the most successful Perkins marine engines of all time has been replaced by two new models. The naturally aspirated Perkins Sabre M90/4.236 is superseded by the four cylinder 4.2 litre naturally aspirated 92hp M92 and the 4 litre turbocharged M115T which develops 115hp.
Extensive proving trials have shown both new engines are suitable for pleasure or commercial use. Both models boast a new water pump and improved cooling of the engines, which are based on Perkins' recently introduced 1000 Series Darwin engine.
A stiffened block and head and the incorporation of advanced sealant technology contribute to an anticipated 50% boost to engine life.
Compared with the outgoing M90, the new Perkins Sabre M92 offers a 9% power boost while delivering a 6.8% reduction in specific fuel consumption at the rated speed, which could slash £1,600 from a three-year fuel bill.
Both new engines meet all existing and planned EU and IMO/EPA emissions regulations.
Also new from Sabre Engines, which manages the Perkins marine business worldwide, are new engine mounts which should make engine height adjustment, alignment and realignment more accurate, easier to achieve and quicker to implement. The new height adjuster mounts are designed to suit all current Perkins Sabre models other than the two smallest, which have built-in adjustment.
