Primar Reorganises
01 Mar 2002
Primar, the official European electronic navigation chart co-ordinating centre in Stavanger, is to reorganise its activities with the establishment of two centres operated by the UK Hydrographic Office and the Norwegian Hydrographic Office.
The changes, says Primar's General Manager Asbjorn Kyrkjeeide, are mainly due to different technical and financial requirements for distribution of ENC's between the UKHO and the Norwegian Mapping Authority.
Primar will be renamed Primar Stavanger and operate as the Norwegian Hydrographic Office electronic chart co-ordinating centre, starting operations on 1 April. The UKHO co-ordinating service will commence 1 July.
In the meantime, Primar's current services for ENC distributors and end-users will continue until the beginning of July with the assurance that the two successor organisations "will continue to work closely together to ensure safety at sea with users not harmed in any way".
