    No Gaps in New Generation ECDIS

    Transas has launched an enhanced version of its commercial Navi-Sailor navigation systems, the Navi-Sailor 3000. This system incorporates all the functionality of the Navi-Sailor 2400, the first type approved ECDIS, but adds a number of new features beyond those called for in the IMO performance standards.

    Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) become mandatory for all newbuilding passenger ships and most cargo vessels from July of this year, with the IMO's implementation schedule requiring all ships over 300gt to embrace the shipboard broadcast transponder system by 2008.
