Dredging Equipment Supply Companies Strengthened by Merger
01 Mar 2002
The new company is one of the world's largest engineering and project groups in the field of dredging equipment, with 70 employees in Lubeck, 30 in Amsterdam, and an annual turnover of ?50 million.
VOSTA originated in 1993 through the merger of Stapel BV, a subsidiary of Koninklijke Volker Wessels Stevin, and Machinefabriek Vos & Zonen. It was acquired by Krupp Fordertechnik in 1995, which LMG had already joined.
After a merger between Krupp and Thyssen, the shares of both VOSTA and LMG were sold to the German industrial group NordGB.
'Through the years co-operation between the two companies has become closer and closer, said Aad Verhoeff, Managing Director of VOSTA and now General Manager of VOSTA LMG. 'We were both operating in the same market. VOSTA designed and supplied the major components for dredgers such as cutter systems, pump and dredging installations and coupling systems, but increasingly has supplied standard cutter dredgers. LMG is specialised in the design and delivery of large custom built dredgers.'
Combining the activities was the next logical step.
Holding company NordGB developed the plan to form one strong project and engineering office, with an Amsterdam headquarters and a branch in Lubeck. LMG's other activities and machine works will continue independently under the name LMG GmbH in Lubeck. This company may be contracted to manufacture components or complete dredging installations for VOSTA LMG as needed.
