James Fisher Winds Up Dry Cargo
01 Mar 2002
Marine services provider James Fisher and Sons plc have announced the sale of the last two ships of its former fleet of dry cargo vessels, concluding its departure from an unprofitable market.
As a result of the same strategic review, Fisher has also disposed of other non-core activities, including the release of leasehold liabilities in the Port of Newhaven. The company will now focus on the provision of marine industry solutions and the parallel running of its shipping operations.
Commenting on the exit from the dry cargo business, Chairman Tim Harris said: 'We are pleased that we have now fully implemented this change in strategy and are able to concentrate on more profitable areas of our business.'
