'Cleopatra' Barges into Workboat Sector
01 Mar 2002
Building on the success of the Cleopatra Fisherman 33 in the UK fishing market over the last two years, Poole-based DS Marine has won a contract to supply its first Cleopatra 38 for a workboat application.
DS Marine will not have to voyage far to participate as an exhibitor at seawork2002 in Southampton.
Built by the Trefjar yard in Iceland, the Cleopatra is available in a variety of sizes and has been developed to meet the demands that Icelandic inshore fishermen make of boats required to work year round in the harshest of conditions.
DS Marine's client, Osiris Projects of Liverpool, chose the Cleopatra to be its new survey vessel on the basis of its ability to run at high speeds and yet still be capable of maintaining very slow constant speeds for extended periods. The Cleopatra has a flap rudder system which provides exceptional manoeuvrability at any speed and a trolling valve for fine tuning.
The Osiris boat will be powered by twin Yanmar diesels, delivering 700hp to provide an anticipated top speed of 30 knots. The Cleopatra design places the V drive engines in the aft engine compartment, allowing best use to be made of forward space.
This includes a15m 3storage area sufficient to carry a substantial payload. The wheelhouse is located forward and accommodation forward includes a full sized galley, three full sized berths, WC, hot water, and twin heating systems. Teak joinery is standard and top quality materials are used throughout.
Outstanding build quality to Nordic Boat Standard regulations and short construction times have brought a sales boom to DS Marine. Six orders for 'Cleopatras' have been taken since November, with the Osiris boat due for delivery in May.
