Quayside Power Display by Barrus
01 Mar 2002
One of the visual as well as practical highlights of every seawork is the quayside display of marine engines put on by EP Barrus Ltd. The Oxfordshire-based distributor has recently been awarded the exclusive Mercury outboard motor franchise for the UK and Ireland and is also now the sole UK distributor of the MerCruiser engine range.
The Mercury franchise is in addition to the exclusive Mariner outboard motor franchise which Barrus has held for over 25 years.
Mercury will have a separate stand-alone dealer network developing a performance branded image while Mariner continues to be marketed as the reliable workhorse which it is.
For the MerCruiser range, Barrus will distribute diesel and petrol inboard and sterndrive engines through the specialised dealer network established by the Barrus Marine Diesel Division.
Mercruiser joins the line up of Yanmar and John Deere engines distributed by Barrus to provide for all commercial applications.
The Marine Diesel Division can now supply a combination of petrol and diesel sterndrives and inboards ranging from 9 to 500hp.
The latest addition to the MerCruiser diesel engine range is the D1.7L DTi, a direct injection four cylinder with turbocharger, aftercooler and wastegate. Available initially with an Alpha drive, the SOLAS approved engine is well suited to fast RIBs and has pushed an 18' sports boat to over 38mph.
Barrus has also introduced the new John Deere PowerTech 6068SFM 300 hp marine engine suitable for planing hull applications, leisure craft and rescue and emergency craft.
The M5 performance related engine is intended for light-duty propulsion applications requiring intermittent horsepower with full power up to 30 minutes out of each 6 hours of operation.
The profusion of new products also saw Barrus introduce the new Seatek 800 Plus engine range at the London Boat Show.
There are two 820hp models in the range, one raw water cooled and one fresh water cooled. A compact size and impressive power to weight ratio make the Seatec engines a popular choice for fast diesel engine patrol boats.
