Watertight Instrument Cases at seawork2002
01 Mar 2002
Among the new exhibitors at seawork2002 will be Leeds UK-based Bloctube Marine Services Ltd (BMS).
Dust and humidity can be a problem in below-deck areas such as the steering gear room.
Electrical indicators in exposed positions can be put at risk.
An instrument case designed by BMS has recently passed idependently conducted IP56 tests to the requirements of BS EN 60529. Indicators such as Rudder Angle and RPM Tachometers mounted on bridge wings where seawater and heavy rain can pose problems were subjected to two days of rigorous laboratory testing and passed by a comfortable margin.
The new tests of both 180mm and 200mm cases diecast and machined by BMS re-confirmed previous Department of Transport tests in which they were classified as 'watertight'.
Systems manufactured by BMS can accommodate as many as eight indicators using signals from one sender unit. The bridge wing mounted indicators have large, high-visibility illuminated dials as now stipulated by the Panama Canal Authority.
The extensive Bloctube range includes three sided models for use on the deck head as well as standard indicators for internal and wheelhouse installations.
BMS has been ISO 9001 certified since 1996 and exports its equipment worldwide.
