Royal Boskalis Orders in Nigeria and Singapore

Royal Boskalis Westminster, the Dutch dredging company, has acquired a substantial order in Singapore for the construction of a large outfall in the Changi area.

The order, which is part of the Deep Tunnel Sewerage System project in Singapore, will be executed in co-operation with Archirodon starting in June and will take approximately 36 months to complete.

The project entails the laying of three pipelines for the disposal of treated effluent from the new Changi Water Reclamation Plant. The pipelines will be installed onshore and in a trench in the seabed.

The work assigned to Boskalis includes dredging a trench offshore, laying a rock mattress for the pipelines, installation of the pipelines (both ashore and offshore) and covering the pipelines with protective sand and rock.

Boskalis has also announced that it has acquired a large order in Nigeria, and says it plans to strengthen its position in the Netherlands with the acquisition of J van Vliet bv in Wormerveer.

The Nigerian order will see the company prepare a parcel of seabed for the construction of a 'gas to liquids plant' in Escravos, Delta State, Nigeria. The value of the contract exceeds ?110m, and the work will be executed using large and mid-size trailing suction hopper hoppers.

Boskalis says the work will take approximately 12 months to complete.

J van Vliet trades in sand for reclamation and is a civil contractor. The company holds a strong market position especially in the Amsterdam and the North Holland area. Turnover in 2001 was approximately ?10 million and the company employs 30 staff.

Boskalis says J Van Vliet will continue to operate under its existing name and with the current management.
