London Salvage Summit Scheduled for March

New initiatives concerned with effective marine casualty response will be debated at the International Marine Salvage Conference, to be held 19 March 2003 at the IMO's London headquarters.

The conference is the fourth to be sponsored and organised by the International Salvage Union (ISU). Past conferences were well attended and over 200 representatives of shipowners, salvors, insurers, lawyers and governmental and inter-governmental agencies are expected at the 2003 event.

One major theme will be the relationship between salvor and state. Topics will range from questions concerning places of refuge to the new US requirements for Salvage Response Plans. The 2003 conference will consist of four sessions. The first will review European perspectives on marine casualties and salvage while the second will consider the implications of US regulatory initiatives. The third session will examine IMO progress on places of refuge and the final session will consider integrated response.

Registration for the conference opens this month, with an early registration service available. For further information, contact ISU Secretary General David Randell at Tel: +44 (0)20 7345 5122, Fax: +44 (0)20 7345 5722, Email: isu@randell.fsnet.co.uk
