Major Refit for Williams' 'Wilcarry'

Williams Shipping Marine has just completed a major refit of its vessel Wilcarry, a multi-purpose work barge with an 80t/m hydraulic crane, 25t pull 3-drum winch, hydraulically powered spud legs and 350m 2of working deck.

The refit included the installation of two Schottel Rudder Propellers powered by Scania DI9's rated at 304hp. It is hoped that the vessel will achieve an extra 2 knots of speed as well as excellent reliability; quieter running due to the acoustic canopies supplied with the Schottel units and improved manoeuvrability helped by the installation of a full 'follow-up' steering system.

The project has run smoothly from start to finish. A close working relationship with navel architects Iguana Seacraft Ltd has led to thorough engineering design, performance studies and project management.

Iguanas detailed CAD designs were used to profile cut many of the components both internally and externally resulting in completion of dry dock engineering in just eight days.

The entire aft end of the vessel has been re-engineered to Iguana Seacrafts' designs and drawings, with internal stiffening, new external protection structure and seachest boxcoolers for improved efficiency, reduced noise and the ability to work in shallow water.

This project is just one of many that Williams Shipping Marine are working on. Their expertise is by no means limited to their own vessels. Their extended engineering division now benefits from a marine base with a deep-water berth and quayside craneage increasing capacity for engineering and refurbishment projects to vessels of up to 100m.
