Red Bay Boats has delivered a fifth Rescue RIB for the Highlands and Islands airport in Scotland. The 8m boat features a cuddy cabin forward and a large deck area designed for working casualties from a helicopter.

Unusual for a boat of this size, the new RIB is powered by two 125hp Yanmar 4JH3-DTE four cylinder marine diesels driving ZF 45 down angle gearboxes to HJ 213 waterjets. A hydraulic trailer was specially designed and developed for this project to meet the specific requirements of the airport.

Red Bay Boats recently held their third annual 'RIB Cruise' from the yard to the Ardbeg Distillery on Islay, some 36 miles away. A fleet of 27 Stormforce RIBs left Red Bay under perfect conditions and were joined by 12 other Red Bay RIBs along the way for a final contingent comprising 39 RIBs crewed by 160 adults and 15 children.

The boats moored off the pier at Ardbeg to the sound of a Scottish Piper. A 'wee dram' in the visitor centre was followed by a buffet lunch. Returning via Rathlin Island, the day was completed with dinner at the Cushendall Boat Club.
