The new genset extends the lower end of the Perkins Sabre auxiliary power range, delivering a maximum net engine power output of 30kWm at 1,500rpm and 35kWm at 1,800rpm while the continuous net engine power output at 1,500rpm is 27.2kWm and at 1,800rpm is 31.8kWm.

The 700GM features a microprocessor-based digital control electronic governor that provides close control and means that the rated speed can be set to either 1,500rpm or 1,800rpm, allowing standard builds to operate at either 50Hz or 60Hz. Other features of the engine include single side servicing and cost-reducing extended service intervals that include a 500 hour or 12 months oil change.

A high capacity heat exchanger with cupro-nickel tube stacks provides low component operating temperatures while a gear-driven sea water pump ensures maximum cooling efficiency. The 700GM is suitable for operation in ambient temperatures up to 52ºC, sea water temperatures up to 39ºC, and is fitted with a fuelled starting aid for temperatures as low as -15ºC.

The engine is manufactured to the Lloyds Quality assurance and Bureau Veritas Mode 1 approval. Optional equipment includes 12V marine insulated electrics, water injected or dry exhaust outlets, heat exchanger and keel cooling, fuel filters and pre-filters, a tool kit and calorifier connections.

Following a global reorganisation by its parent company, Caterpillar, Sabre Engines is now part of the Compact Power Systems Division. However, Sabre will retain its strong links with Caterpillar's Marine Business Unit, which is now part of the Power Systems Marketing Division.
