'Crystal Ocean' Gets Offshore Warning System

Tideland Signal's Syncrolan IV offshore warning system has been fitted to the Brovig Crystal Ocean, a well test vessel built by Kvaerner at Govan in Scotland and recently leased to Amerada Hess Ltd for an extended well test in the Chestnut Field off Aberdeen.

The Syncrolan IV system was installed as one of several modifications to enable the Crystal Ocean to meet the safety regulations for an extended well test, where the vessel functions essentially as an FPSO and is stationary over the well.

The Syncrolan IV fog and light station includes two main flashing white lights with a range of 15 nautical miles, two secondary white lights and a fog signal.

The main lights are fitted with 400W lamps which are more economical than comparable systems as they consume less power. The CSP4 control panel features an RS232 output and volt-free contacts, which means that the system can be remotely controlled and monitored when required. The system was fitted in Glasgow by ABB Building Technology.
