New Pollution Control Vessel Joins Greek Fleet
01 Apr 2003
The newbuild oil pollution control vessel Chrissi Akti Z has gone into service in Greece equipped with an oil spill containment and recovery package supplied by Vikoma International Ltd.
The 23m counter-pollution boat was built by the Macedonia shipyard specifically for a pollution response role and joins a fleet of 12 vessels owned and operated by N E Zouras which ranges from crew launches to deep sea salvage tugs. N E Zouras approached Vikoma to supply the spill containment and recovery package.
The Chrissi Akti Z has a 40m 3storage capacity for recovered oil and an on board transfer pump system supplied by Vikoma. An on board crane can also discharge slops from a floating storage barge. The Vikoma package also includes Komara 20 and Komara 40 oil recovery skimmers with 20 and 40 tonne per hour recovery rates respectively. The skimmers are Lloyds witness tested and recover less than 2% free water by volume under normal conditions.
Ease of deployment keeps manpower requirements to a minimum. The vessel is also equipped with a Delta skimmer for very shallow waters and a containment boom sweep system specifically designed for the Chrissi Akti Z.
