New lantern Shines Light on seawork
01 Apr 2003
Tideland Signal, recently relocated from Redhill to Burgess Hill UK, will be travelling yet again in June as it debuts and demonstrates its new MLED-120E lantern at seawork2003. This new version of its successful diode-based range of lanterns offers long life, low maintenance and high efficiency.
The MLED-120E is an extremely compact, lightweight lantern designed for wide angle vertical divergence and a performance range of 4 to 6+ NM. It features a water resistant construction which allows performance even when periodically submerged and is available with a choice of one to four LED arrays which are colour coordinated for ease of recognition in standard IALA colours. The power of each LED tier is set as standard to 2.5 watts. For low power applications, a single tier unit can be adjusted to any power level between 2.5 and 1 watt.
Two easily accessible switches control 256 flash characters.
The inherent properties of LEDs ensure that the effective intensity of flashing lights is maximised, while the mean time to failure for an individual LED is measured in hundreds of thousands of hours compared to a few thousand for incandescent lamps.
A high efficiency DC to DC converter is incorporated, providing virtually constant luminous output under a wide range of input power conditions.
The effective intensity of the light is determined by the number of modules stacked in the array.
The new Tideland lantern is manufactured from weather and corrosion resistant thermoplastics suitable for harsh marine environments.
The lens is moulded in a special optical grade of high impact polycarbonate, the interior of which is fluted to provide uniform horizontal intensity.
The lens housing is equipped with two cable entries and the mounting plate features a three or four bolt pattern identical with that of other Tideland lanterns.
