The Portland, Oregon-based boat now has two new gensets built by Perkins Pacific Inc using Perkins Sabre 4TGM constant speed genset engines. They are used to operate essential equipment which includes steering and fire pumps, the air compressor and ventilation system as well as all electrical equipment.

The quiet and compact 4TGM engine delivers a maximum net power output of 75.5kWm at 1,500rpm and 88.5kWm at 1,800rpm while its maximum generator output is 85kVa at 1,500rpm and 99.6kVa at 1,800rpm.

Standard features include single sided servicing, gear driven water pumps, Viton crankshaft seals and controlled swell joints that ensure leak free operation.

The engines are designed to operate in ambient temperatures of up to 50ºC and seawater temperatures up to 38ºC. They are also fitted with a fuelled starting aid for temperatures as low as -20ºC.

Perkins Sabre has also launched a new genset engine.

The 700GM is based on the naturally aspirated 3 litre, 4 cylinder direct injection diesel used for the M65 propulsion engine. The new genset extends the lower end of the Perkins Sabre auxiliary power range, delivering a maximum net engine power output of 30kWm at 1,500rpm and 35kWm at 1,800rpm with continuous net power ratings of 27.2kWm and 31.8kWm respectively.

The 700GM features a microprocessor based digital control electronic governor which means the rated speed can be set to 1,500 or 1,800rpm, allowing standard builds to operate at either 50Hz or 60Hz.

In terms of environmental compliance, the 700GM is based on the US EPA Tier 1 off-highway Perkins 700 Series engine and is manufactured to Lloyds Quality Assurance scheme and Bureau Veritas Mode 1 approval. Optional equipment includes 12V marine insulated electrics, heat exchanger and keel cooling, fuel filters and pre-filters, a tool kit and calorifier connections.
