Valeport Introduce New Tide Gauge

Instrumentation specialists Valeport of Totnes, Devon have introduced a new seabed-mounted tide recorder for hydrographic, oceanographic and marine civil engineering applications, Midas. Designed for precise water level measurements where conventional units attached to piers and jetties are not practicable, the system can also be used as part of an in-line mooring assembly.

High accuracy (±0.01%) pressure and temperature sensors are rated to 1,000m water depth and there is a wide range of sampling regimes and rates at 1, 2, 4, or 8Hz. Continuous logging and output of data is available on demand via external instrumentation or in a burst pattern where data are obtained for a short period before the instrument goes into 'sleep' mode, thus conserving power and memory. There is also a conditional sampling mode where output is regularly monitored but is only logged when data values exceed a customer-set trigger value.

Standard memory is 8 megabytes, representing a storage capacity of 1.4 million records.
