Seawork2003 Review

Short Sharp Shock-Free Centa

seawork2003 exhibitor Centa Transmissions Ltd was showing its recently launched ADM variant of the Centaflex AGM Series propulsion driveshaft coupling, which retains all the advantages of the original design but substantially reduces the overall length of the unit.

Designed for installation between the engine reduction gear and propeller shaft, both types have a flexible element which eliminates shaft-transmitted vibration and noise. They incorporate insulated, self-adjusting, hull mounted, double acting bearings which transfer propeller thrust directly to the vessel instead of through the reduction gearbox/engine mounts.

The couplings are able to operate in-line or to accommodate angular misalignment and movement up to 6 (degree) for the AGM and 3 (degree) in the case of the ADM, making the need for accurate, maintained engine alignment unnecessary and, in the absence of propeller thrust, allowing the use of highly flexible engine mounts and long propeller shafts.
