Used as part of the company's range of silencers and exhaust systems, silicon bellows have the ability to endure significantly higher temperatures and conduct much less vibration than traditional exhaust hoses.

The launch of the new range followed Halyard's acquisition of Cerambond, a specialist manufacturer of exhaust hose and silicon exhaust products.

With its existing manufacturing facilities for GRP silencers using Halyard's GRP filament winding plant and the facility to design and build stainless steel exhaust injection elbows, Halyard can now claim to be the first company worldwide to manufacture entire marine exhaust systems in-house.

Visitors to seawork2003 could see one of the latest Halyard installations in the floating exhibition, where VT Halmatic's latest newbuild in steel was on display. The 15m workboat Farset of Belfast has now gone to work for D Ferran and Sons, who are towage contractors for the Port of Belfast.

The Farset of Belfast, the build contract for which was signed at seawork2002, has been fitted with a Halyard dry exhaust with through funnel outlets. The dry exhaust was specifically designed to fit into the restricted space available and is particularly suited for low fitted engines.

Farset is powered by twin Volvo Penta D12-550 engines driving through Twin Disc gearboxes to generate a bollard pull in excess of 10 tonnes.

A pipework around the exhaust system uses Halyard's heat shell, which is bonded directly onto the pipes. This new style of bonded jacket provides a neat, close fit around the pipes and is a tough, durable alternative to thermal jackets.
