Double Debut from Weymouth
01 Aug 2003
Weymouth Offshore have just delivered the first five Evolution 38s designed by Paul Ching of Universal Projects especially for the workboat and charter sector.
The well proven trihedral design which gives great stability has been radically re-thought.
A finer bow section and deep V gives a much better head sea performance than is usually associated with this type of vessel and a unique secondary deflection rail greatly reduces drag and spray.
A full length keel gives good control in a following or beam sea and with a flush deck there is plenty of room to spread out.
The Evolution 38 is now in full production at a very competitive price and is available as a base shell or part completed for those who enjoy fitting out or who are on a tight budget.
While the Evolution was in the development stage, Weymouth Offshore completed a deal with Rod Baker of Port Isaac Work Boats fame to purchase the redundant Offshore 125 hull mould. Weymouth Offshore's MD Grahame Knott had operated one of these vessels for six years and refers to it as 'a beast that will go anywhere in anything'.
The down side was the vessel's weight. There was no wheelhouse or gunwhale mould which meant the topsides were constructed from ply and glassed over. This made the 125 very slab sided and heavy.
Paul Ching was once again employed to design a new wheelhouse and construct the mould. The new wheelhouse reflects the Evolution's style and the result brings the 125 up to date with a weight reduction of three tons.
